ABOUT CANDACE GREEN

Candace D. Marquez Green is a Chicago-based writer and poet whose work explores intimacy, discernment, and the quiet negotiations of love, heartbreak, and the journey to self. Her writing centers emotional honesty without spectacle, with a rhythm that often invites a spoken-word read, allowing vulnerability and restraint to coexist. She writes where tenderness and clarity meet.

 

Candace began writing books as a child, poetry in teen years, and embarked on her journey as a published author in 2013. Her creative voice is deeply shaped by lived experience, growing up on Chicago’s South Side, enduring childhood trauma, witnessing familial drug and alcohol addiction, losing loved ones to overdose and suicide, rediscovering her worth after failed relationships, overcoming postpartum anxiety, and navigating the devastating loss of her youngest brother to gun violence. From these experiences, her work emerges as both testimony and offering.

 

Her poetry collections, In glimpses & reminisces and Vowed Rivalry: to have and to lose, explore love, longing, emotional patterning, and the evolution toward choosing oneself without losing faith in aligned, wholehearted love. In glimpses & reminisces has been reviewed by the Chicago Writers Association and is cataloged in the Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and Gail Borden Public Library Districts. Candace has also been featured on the Ethically Immoral Podcast.

 

Beyond writing, Candace is the embodiment of “Beauty for Ashes.” She has opened a luxury retail business in the midst of a global pandemic, succeeded in commercial and residential real estate, mentored underserved youth, and provided re-entry tools for formerly incarcerated individuals. Since 2010, she has served the public through speaking engagements, workshops, panels, church platforms, podcasts, and community initiatives; offering hope, tools, and inspiration for those seeking to move from adversity into possibility.

She is an Ordained Minister & Officiant, Licensed Illinois Real Estate Managing Broker, four-time published author, blog writer, and fashion and beauty expert. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Business, a Master of Arts in Public Relations, and a Master of Business Administration.

 

Candace says, “My passion comes from a deep place within that allows me to express feelings, dreams, and creativity while inspiring and encouraging others. My goal is exuding positive energy and abundance into the atmosphere, giving honor to God and living life unshaken, with no opportunity left untaken.”
